ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) high-ups are at odds with each other on the issue of central leadership, Geo News reported Saturday.
A meeting of PML-Q like-minded leaders was held at the residence of Hamayoun Akhtar to mull over the issue relating the party’s central leadership.
The party tapped Hamid Nasir Chattha for the party’s presidency; while, Saleem Saifullah or Hamayoun Akhtar would be projected for the office of party’s secretary General, the meeting decided with consensus.
Akhtar said PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain cannot ascend the presidency for the third time in accordance with the party constitution, adding the consultation with Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Ijazul Haq is underway.
Akhtar maintained, “We will not allow the party to slip into the family of Chaudhry Brothers,” adding party cannot be run with undemocratic ways.
Ata Manika and Saleem Saifullah attended the meeting, told Akhtar.
On this occasion, PML-Q leader Iqbal Dar also hit out at the central leadership of the party, saying, “Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is not eligible for the presidency for the third time.”
Dar said the people are worried about the party’s role
Commenting on the rifts in party, Mushahid Hussain said PML-Q General Council will take up decision in line with the party constitution, as the party is a democratic in nature and decision regarding the party leadership would be made in this very month.
However, Akhtar said PML-Q general Council is unconstitutional.
Mushahid said if anyone wants to be on the helm of affairs of party, he should contest Chaudhry Shujaat, adding the decisions regarding the offices cannot be made in the drawing rooms.
