LAHORE: Police on Friday night raided various theatres in Lahore and arrested stage actors Anjuman Shahzadi and Hina Sheikh for staging vulgar and obscene performances, a private TV channel reported.
According to the channel, the arrests were made when they were performing at a local theatre late on Friday.
Talking to reporters after her arrest, Shahzadi said the charges of vulgarity were baseless. “We are not murderers or dacoits... we are stars and our job is to entertain people,” Shahzadi said. She said the police had even not provided her with a copy of the first information report lodged against her.
Demanding that the Punjab chief minister take notice of her arrest, she appealed to the government and the masses to provide her justice. The two arrested actress were later moved to the Race Course women’s police station, the channel said. The police is also hunting for Deedar, Nida Chaudhry and other prominent stage dancers.
