With the successful diplomacy of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in the Sharm-el-Sheikh, presidential camp is playing down this success and as Gilani refuses the appointment of Jehanzeb Khan as ambassador in France and also refuses some key appointments ordered by President Zardari, fissures are widening rapidly.
To put more pressure on Gilani, Asif Ali Zardari has met with Mian Nawaz Sharif but the outcome is nill as Nawaz Sharif not only refused to rejoin the federal cabinet but also didn’t back off from his stance of 17th amendement and a private message has been conveyed to premier Gilani through senator Pervez Rasheed that PML-N is going to support Gilani if things come to that point.
Another point of contention between Gilani and Zardari is the reshuffling of the cabinet. Gilani wants a complete overhaul of the cabinet as he is of the opinion that not a single minister or advisor is worth his or her salt. But President is dead against it and he has agreed at maximum to the change the portfolio of the ministers and has refused even to touch the advisors.
Coming days are tough as the PPP government has already lost the popular support and mass protests of general public are a vivid proof of that. NRO, Pervez Musharraf’s fate and some other issues are certainly going to make or break this government.
