There are many interesting questions which are still in dormant status but lurking in the background to come out in the near future.
With the tragic assassination of Benazir Bhutto more than two years ago, her widower Asif Ali Zardari took hold of the party and then the presidency and he also pledged with the workers of his party that he shares the chairmanship of the party with the son of Benazir Bhutto and he will hand the hilt to Bilawal once he gets ready for it.
Now the question is will Zardari hand the PPP over to Bilawal? Will Bilawal come back to Pakistan to take part in active politics? Will people of Pakistan give resounding reception to Bilawal or the unpopularity of his father would hamper his progress? Will people of Pakistan take Bilawal as Bilawal Bhutto or as Bilawal Zardari or they will remain confuse about Bilawal Bhutto Zardari?
Power is very toxic and Bilawal has seen the glimpse of it when his mother was alive. He has also seen the violent and very powerful reaction after the sad demise of her mother, and he has been sitting among the world leaders frequently with and after her mother. He has sensed the VVIP status, and it’s hard for him to ignore it. Besides, Zulfiqar Junior, the son of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, the brother of Benazir Bhutto is also hoping to claim the real inheritance of Bhutto clan and then to the PPP. Fatima Bhutto is another candidate, though she has failed to gain any popular support from even Larkana, the home district of PPP.
As the wounds in the hearts of Pakistanis are still fresh from the slaying of Benazir Bhutto so they still cherish Bilawal and President Zardari knows that and he times to time bring Bilawal to the scene to soften the angry sentiments against him. But time heals everything and the people have got short memories. Within couple of years, many of sympathy notions of now will become a distant memory, and Bilawal would have tough time to fill in the shoes of her mother, and besides he has got strong competitors from his own family. Ghinwa Bhutto, Naheed Khan, Safdar Abbassi and some others have already started preparations for the upcoming battle.
